Pintertest Kitchen: Garlic Brown Sugar Chicken

So.
According to Pinterest, I pinned this 26 weeks ago.  Half a year.  I was at a different school, in a different house, bemoaning different aspects of my kitchen than I am now.
The first day of school, I set out to discover if this chicken recipe was really the BEST ever.
I present to you now Food.com's Easy Garlic Chicken:

Ingredients:
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
4 garlic cloves, minced
4 tablespoons brown sugar
3 teaspoons olive oil

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 500F and grease a casserole dish.
2. In small pan, saute garlic with the oil until tender.  Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar.
3.  Place chicken breasts in a prepared baking dish and pour the garlic and brown sugar mixture over top.
4.  Bake uncovered for 15-30 minutes.

From Food.com

I have to admit, I read the comments.  I also made this for 2, so I halved the amounts.  Kind of.
I read that there wasn't enough garlic flavour, so I left the 4 cloves of garlic in.  But I didn't use as much butter, maybe 2 tablespoons.  I used an equal amount of brown sugar (2 tablespoons?) and added a few shakes of soy sauce based on what I read.  It smelled amazing.
I then baked the chicken at 425 for 30 minutes.  500 struck me as too hot, so I didn't get the really browny bits from the pin, but I did get a crunchy crust on the top of the chicken.
And the verdict?  Eh...it was okay.  I'm not a huge fan of sweet for an entree.  J told me that I could make it again , but not too often.  So I guess it was a win.
But the BEST chicken ever?  I don't think so.

Today, I'm Keeping Up with the Johnsons.  You should too!

  1. HA! I love your honesty. It doesn't look terrible. But I'll take your word that it wasn't the best ever. Thanks for linking up, Sarah!!
